About Macro Scratch

Macro Scratch tracks where money is sitting: how much is parked in cash and how much is invested, across US markets and crypto. The charts update automatically from public data, and the newsletter explains what they are saying.

What the charts measure

Cash vs stocks: US money market funds plus company bank deposits, divided by that cash plus the US stock market (with ETF shares removed so nothing is counted twice). Broad cash share adds household deposits, Treasury bills, bonds, foreign stocks, private businesses and real estate. Crypto cash share is stablecoins as a share of all crypto.

How live is it?

Crypto prices refresh every few minutes. US market inputs update daily after the close, money fund totals weekly, and the Federal Reserve's full accounts quarterly. Each chart shows when its data was last updated.
